Public transportation system
Moscow has a well developed public transportation system including buses, street cars, trolleybuses and the Metro system, which carry more than 10 million passengers daily.
Serface transport
Operates from 6.00 to 24.00. Fare is collected through the sale of special tickets, which can be obtained right in the vehicle from conductors. "Microbuses" link points, which are difficult to reach by other means of transport. Running on a fixed route, they provide a shuttle service every 10 minutes, but there are intermediate request stops.
The Metro System
The fastest means of public transport in Moscow is the metro. There are more than 100 underground stations in Moscow, forming 10 lines of the Metro System. Trains run from 6.00 a.m. till 1.00 p.m. Service is frequent, with trains at intervals of 1.5 to 2.5 minutes. Any journey, irrespective of distance, costs the same amount of money. Passengers buy a magnetic card in the vestibule before the turnstiles, deposit the card in a turnstile and pass through when the light turns green. Special travel cards for several trips are also available. Sometimes, especially during rush hours, it is much faster to travel by metro than by bus or even by taxi.
Taxies
If you need to get a taxi, you can either order it from a hotel, or hail in the street. Taxis are normally yellow with a checkerboard, with a green light indicating availability. The payment should be done according to the meter, irrespective of the number of passengers or the amount of luggage. You may order taxi round o'clock. Tel. 927 0000, 238 1001, 256 2380.
